Snowmass Village will be temporarily closing Anaerobic Nightmare, Sequel and Tom Blake trails during the last week of April as part of the town’s annual seasonal wildlife protection program.

Additional trails will close and reopen throughout May, according to a press release. These closures happen each year and are what the release calls “strictly enforced” in order to safeguard sensitive habitats and local wildlife populations.

“Snowmass Village is recognized for its strong connection to the natural environment, offering abundant opportunities for recreation and wildlife viewing,” the release reads. “To preserve this balance, the Town’s Animal Services Division implements seasonal trail closures designed to minimize human impact during critical wildlife periods.”

In accordance with Section 10-29 of the Snowmass Village Municipal Code, it is unlawful for anyone to access designated trails during those wildlife-sensitive periods. The closures are enforced in partnership with Colorado Parks & Wildlife, with monitoring cameras actively deployed in restricted areas and “a zero-tolerance policy” for violations, according to the release. Fines for noncompliance can reach up to $5,000.
