The Association of Volleyball Professionals — AVP — wrapped up its inaugural weekend of Aspen AVP League play on Sunday with a second and final day of pro beach volleyball at Koch Park.
The final records from the eight games played over two days were as follows: Miami Mayhem (3-1), Palm Beach Passion (3-1), Brooklyn Blaze (2-2) and New York Nitro (0-4).
Miami Mayhem (Andy Benesh/Taylor Crabb) def. New York Nitro (Chaim Schalk/James Shaw), 14-16, 15-13, 15-8
Aspen served as the second of eight regular-season stops for the AVP League this season, plus the finale that will be stop No. 9. Up next for the third-year league is a trip to Miami (June 12-13), followed by Las Vegas (June 19-20), Long Beach (July 11-12), New York’s Central Park (July 18-19), East Hampton (July 25-26) and Dallas (Aug. 7-8), plus the season-concluding league championship in Chicago (Sept. 5-6).

AVP will return to Aspen later this summer — in a slightly different form, at least — via the Mother Lode Volleyball Classic, held in Aspen since 1972. The popular volleyball tournament, now run by the entity LetsGO Volleyball, will feature an AVP Heritage Contenders field, which is a qualifier for the larger AVP League series.
The Mother Lode returns Sept. 2-7 with sand volleyball at Koch Park and grass tournaments at both Rio Grande Park and Wagner Park.
