McNally: He is definitely an ACE

With graduation coming up for Basalt High School this coming Saturday, I would like to let you know of an amazing BHS student. Xavier Plowman over the past four years has excelled in academics, community and engagement with the students. He is definitely an ACE (Academic, Community, Engaged).
From an academic standpoint, Xavier has maintained well over the 4.0 GPA with as high as 4.650 and taking four AP classes his senior year. He has achieved over 22 Academic Achievement and THRIVE Awards over the four years at Basalt. He was the solo French horn in the Wind Ensemble and received a THRIVE award (Thoughtful– Honest- Responsible- Inclusive-Valued-Engaged) for that. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Art. He was commissioned to paint the wall main entrance to the library at Basalt High School. His academic achievements this year were for AP U.S. Government, AP Statistics, AP English Literature & Composition, AP Art, Anatomy & Physiology.
From a community standpoint, Xavier painted a mural on the wall of the library at Basalt with his own creativity in mind. He felt it was import to capture the students’ interest in his painting. In doing so, he decided to paint the Longhorn school’s mascot but incorporate the ethnicity of the students by adding the flags of their ancestry to the paintings.
From an engagement perspective, Xavier performed student teaching to student. He was a mentor to incoming freshmen students and was a sounding board for students with difficulties. He was involved and attended government functions to learn and contribute his opinion on community activities.
Xavier was accepted to the School of Mines in Golden, Colo., and received the Presidential Scholarship Award and a scholarship from Snowmass Rotary Club.
