The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office enforced six impaired driving incidents over the Fourth of July weekend, some of which were involved in accidents with minor injuries.

“Two of those involved were crashes with injuries,” said Pitkin County Sheriff Michael Buglione. “They were not severe injuries.”

The Fourth of July being on a Friday this year did not have a notable impact on driving under the influence citations as compared to last year when the holiday fell on a Thursday. Last year, there were a total of five DUIs, three of which took place on the night of July 5 which was a Friday night, data from the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office shows.

This year, three took place on the night of July 4, with the other three preceding the holiday on July 3.

Similarly, there were similar levels of fireworks complaints made in Pitkin County this year as compared to last year.

This past weekend there were five total firework complaints while 2024 had six.
