A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle in downtown Aspen on Thursday morning, according to the Aspen Police Department.
The bicyclist, a 47-year-old woman from Aspen, was crossing Main Street shortly before noon while heading southbound on a N. First Street crosswalk when she was struck by a sedan driven by a 24-year-old woman from Glenwood Springs, Assistant Police Chief Bill Linn said.
The intersection does not have traffic lights.
“Some traffic stopped and as she proceeded a vehicle did not stop and struck the bicyclist,” Linn said. “The bicyclist was knocked off her bike.”
The 47-year-old woman was then taken to Aspen Valley Hospital for non-emergent injuries, while the driver was found at fault. Charges were not revealed, however, as the incident is still under investigation.
Since Aspen has more visitors in the area due to the Fourth of July weekend, Linn advised both drivers and pedestrians to exercise heightened caution.
“We really encourage drivers and pedestrians to be attentive and be looking out for each other,” he said.
