Snowmass Ski Area became the third local mountain — plus Sunlight — to close up shop early this winter, as Easter Sunday brought an end to its ski season. This included a version of the annual closing party on Saturday at Elk Camp. Originally scheduled to close on April 12, a recent heatwave and quickly vanishing snowpack forced Aspen Skiing Company to call it quits a week early.

With Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands — see those closing day photos here — also having closed early due to the snow conditions, this leaves only Aspen Mountain hanging on. Still tentatively scheduled to close April 19, SkiCo said in a statement this past week that Ajax will stay open for “as long as possible.”
