The Basalt Education Foundation, a nonprofit that fundraises for Basalt public schools, is hosting a school board candidates’ forum next week on Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Basalt Middle School auditorium.

“At BEF, we know that it is important for the voters to be thoroughly informed when they cast any vote, especially one for candidates who will represent us and impact our schools,” Basalt Education Foundation President Casey Livingston said.

Basalt public schools are electing two directors to four-year terms representing Districts A and E. District A stretches from southern Carbondale to the lower Mount Sopris area, District E from Missouri Heights to the areas north of Highway 82.

“The decisions that school board members make have a real and lasting impact on our students, their curriculum, their teachers, and the education-related infrastructure in our valley,” Casey said.

Kathryn Kuhlenger, incumbent representative for District E, is seeking a second term against Elizabeth Taylor. Tamara Nimmo and Jodi Barr are running for the District A seat to be vacated by Kenny Teitler, who announced in August that he would not seek re-election.

All interested voters are welcome to attend. It will be livestreamed on the Basalt Education Foundation’s Youtube page which can be found at youtube.com/channel/UCou41rZzo-41nH7vlJO0-0Q/shorts.
