“Harry Wilson, also known as ‘Doc’ Wilson, is in trouble for appropriating equine property that did not belong to him,” The Aspen Daily Times reported on April 19, 1890.
“Some days since John Brice gave Wilson an order for a horse that was on a ranch down the river. Wilson got the horse and brought him to town, but he seemed to have made up his mind after getting here that he might as well keep the animal. He and another man were overheard planning a hasty trip to Utah, and Mr. Brice was notified of the plan, but when he went to look for his horse, the pair had disappeared. This was on Wednesday evening last, and it was learned that the two men had left town at 5 o’clock in the afternoon and headed down the river with two saddle horses and a pack animal. A warrant was sworn out for Wilson’s arrest, but the officers did not succeed in getting track of the fugitive until yesterday, although they had freely used the telegraph to intercept him. At noon yesterday, a dispatch was received from New Castle that Wilson had been arrested at that place, and Under-Sheriff Calvin left on the night train to get the prisoner.”
