Champs crowned in Basalt

The Basalt Half-Marathon marked its 37th annual race Saturday.
The downhill run from Ruedi Reservoir down to Basalt is the primary fundraiser for the Basalt High School cross country team.
“The field was half the size I normally get,” said longtime race director Ron Lund. “But I think the date change and going up against the triathalon … hurt the attendance.”
He said this weekend also marked the third consecutive week with a race of similar distance.
Peter Vail was the overall winner Saturday in 1:13:15. Robbie George was second (1:24:51) with Craig Macek third (1:25:38).
Hayley Kremer was the top female (1:26:14). She was fourth overall.
The second-place woman was Danielle Vail, who was fifth overall in 1:27:55.
About 60 runners took part.
