Lawrence “Larry” Doble passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, three weeks before his 79th birthday. An engineer, volunteer firefighter, and devoted husband and father, Larry lived with humor, curiosity, and a sense of adventure. He helped found the Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork, designed countless structures throughout the valley and the nation.
Larry loved the outdoors, Irish music and culture, good books, Willie Nelson, and sharing meals with family and friends. Despite many physical challenges, his easy smile and sense of humor never left him. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Joanna Schaffner; his daughters, Keegan and Stella; their mother, Pam Moore; and the many friends whose lives he enriched.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 21, 2026 from 4-7 at the American Legion in Carbondale. A short service will begin at 4:30 followed with food, live music, and memories around the fire. Donations in Larry honor may be made to KDNK, Dementia Society of America, or the Colorado Wildlife Federation.
