I find it easier to shop for people when I think about the things they’re a little ridiculous about. Who turns a cheese board into a three-hour project? Who hears “the road gets pretty rough up there” and takes it as a recommendation? This is the first of my four holiday gift guides. Gifts for him, gifts for her and gifts for outdoorsy people are still to come.

For the homebody: Garnet Hill Asian Wrap Organic-Cotton Pajamas

I get my mom a pair of these for Christmas just about every year, and they hold up amazingly well considering what she puts them through. She lounges in them, sure, but she’ll also wear them to water her gardens or run out to the barn or the RV. The set is made from machine-washable 100% organic cotton jersey. The long-sleeve crossover top hits low on the hip, and the straight-leg pants have an elastic waist and a 30-inch inseam. $89, GarnetHill.com.

For the lumberjack: Royal Robbins Men’s Snowcap Lined Flannel

Every fall, I dress for the temperature inside my house and regret it as soon as I step outside. I’d keep the Snowcap by the door. The plaid cotton shell has a little stretch, and the recycled polyester fleece lining lets it stand in for a light jacket. The chest pockets button shut, and the oversized buttons are easy to manage with gloves on. I’d wrap this for the guy who still insists it’s too early for a winter coat. $140, RoyalRobbins.com.

For the designated DJ: Fender x Teufel ROCKSTER CROSS

I have musician friends who pack a speaker before they pack a change of clothes. River trip, desert campsite, tailgate after a long mountain bike ride — somebody’s got a playlist ready. The ROCKSTER CROSS is a water-resistant Bluetooth stereo speaker with a wired input and up to 16 hours of playtime at medium volume. My favorite detail is the removable Fender guitar strap. Sling it over your shoulder and you look like you’re headed to a gig, even if you’re just crossing the trailhead parking lot. $200, us.TeufelAudio.com.

For the chronic weekender: CALPAK Luka Duffel

I’ve reviewed enough travel bags to get curious when I see the same one all over my feed. CALPAK’s Luka is a cult favorite with travel influencers, and I get it. It’s surprisingly roomy for a 25-liter bag and just about the perfect size for a flight, with room for a change of clothes and everything I want within reach. It has nine pockets, a separate shoe compartment and a removable shoulder strap. A sleeve slips over your suitcase handle and hides a little passport pocket. $138, CalpakTravel.com.

For the mountain town junkie: Print Ain’t Dead – A Mountain Gazette Anthology

After more than two decades in Aspen, I still like hearing how people ended up in mountain towns and why they stayed. This 500-plus-page hardcover spans 60 years of Mountain Gazette, with work by Edward Abbey, Sadie Stein, Jeremy Jones and more. There’s even a cartoon by Harry Bliss and Steve Martin. I’d give it to the friend who turns a quick coffee into two hours of stories about the good ol’ days, back before Aspen was “ruined.” $45, MountainGazette.com.

For the dirt road diehard: NOCO AX65 Boost Air

After dealing with my Jeep’s dead battery in the backcountry, I’m a lot more inclined to pack a jump starter. The AX65 delivers 2,000 peak amps and can jump-start 12-volt vehicles with gas engines up to 8 liters or diesels up to 6 liters. Its built-in compressor goes up to 100 psi and shuts off at your set pressure, handy when your tire or a friend’s is losing air miles from pavement. It also has a flashlight and a Presta adapter for the mountain bike on the rack. $300, no.co.

For the lane shark: FORM Smart Swim goggles

Somewhere between thinking about dinner and remembering the email I forgot to send, I lose track of what lap I’m on. All three FORM models display pace, distance and lap count as you swim, with no subscription needed for the basics. The Smart Swim 2 LT ($149) covers those stats, and the Smart Swim 2 ($199) adds a heart rate monitor. The Smart Swim 2 PRO ($259) adds scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass lenses and a spray to refresh the anti-fog treatment. I’d spring for the PRO for the swimmer who’s tired of clearing fogged lenses. $149–$259, formswim.com.

For the charcuterie cutie: Jones Cutting Boards Walnut End Grain Cutting Board

My dad makes knives, so I pay attention to what goes underneath a good blade. This solid black walnut board has an end-grain surface that’s gentler on knife edges. At 20 by 14 inches and an inch and a half thick, it has room for real prep work or an elaborate arrangement of salami. Recessed grips make it easier to carry. You can add feet, engraving, a juice groove or any combination of the three. The groove is a must for me, especially when I’m slicing a roast or ripe tomatoes. Jones lists a 40- to 60-day build time, so order early. $251 for the board alone or $265 with a juice groove, JonesCuttingBoards.com.

For the would-be Star Baker: GreenPan Reserve Bakeware 8-Piece Set

Every holiday baking project starts with me finding the pan I need at the bottom of the stack. This eight-piece set covers cookies, cakes, muffins and quick breads and includes a cooling rack. The aluminized steel pans have a ceramic nonstick coating and gold-tone handles. They’re oven-safe to 550 degrees, and GreenPan recommends hand-washing. I’d wrap this for the baker who fears a soggy bottom and dreams of a Hollywood Handshake. $280, GreenPan.us.

For the cowgirl: Stetson & THE GREAT. Gus 6X Cowboy Hat

There’s no shortage of cowboy hats in Aspen, especially come festival season. I’d wear this one with a flowy dress and boots or old jeans and a white tee. Made in Texas from 6X fur felt, the Gus has a sloped crown, a slightly curved four-inch brim and a twisted leather band. Ranch Tan and Butterscotch are exclusive to the collaboration with THE GREAT. I’d do a little detective work on her hat size before wrapping this one up. $525, Stetson.com.
