In addition to caring for the injuries and illnesses of patients, Aspen Valley Hospital’s (AVH) vision is to foster the Roaring Fork Valley community as the healthiest in the nation by focusing on prevention, wellness, and well-being.
To that end, The AVH Foundation launched a new symposium over the weekend of Friday, March 8-Saturday, March 9, at The Aspen Institute Campus. Focused on the timely topic of longevity, Dr. Paul Grewal (who works in private practice and as a scientific advisor in New York City) was the keynote, joined by a slate of physicians including Dr. Rebecca Laird (AVH cardiologist) and Dr. Joseph Ruzbarsky (Steadman Clinic) who has repaired and replaced more knees, shoulders, and hips than I can count on friends and family.
As an internal medicine physician, author, and speaker, Dr. Grewal focuses on data-driven nutrition and lifestyle strategies for metabolic health and longevity. Having lost and kept off nearly 100 pounds himself, he gravitates toward helping others find a sustainable path to well-being. He’s also co-author of The New York Times best-selling book “Genius Foods,” an evidence-based guide to dementia prevention and cognitive optimization.
A welcome cocktail reception with AVH physicians served as the start to the weekend, followed by Dr. Grewal’s presentation, “The Future of Health and Longevity Medicine: Making Personal Health Decisions in the Era of Information Overload.”
“Being healthy starts with being informed,” said Dave Ressler, CEO at Aspen Valley Hospital, who remarked upon the “robust line-up of national and local experts in our first year, with a focus on living our best lives longer.”
On Saturday afternoon, seven breakout sessions or “mini-Ted talks” covered related themes in the world of surgery, orthopedics, and more, presented by physicians from AVH, The Steadman Clinic, and Radiology Imaging Associates.
“For so many of us, enjoying an active lifestyle is central to our lives in Aspen,” said Cori Berger, Symposium Host Chair.
