When the Aspen Chamber Resort Association (ACRA) heard that the beloved weekly community uphill social breakfast at The Cliffhouse Restaurant on Buttermilk had lost its sponsor, the organization knew it had to step in and help.

“The goal of the chamber is to preserve the quality of life and protect the reason people enjoy coming here,” said Eliza Voss, VP of destination marketing. “And one of the pillars of that plan is to preserve small town character. The Buttermilk Uphill breakfast illustrates that sense of community and small-town character well. We thought that stepping in as a sponsor, not to reduce the breakfast to free but to bring it back to that $7.50 cost, would be a good way to work preserving an important community event.”

This Friday, which is International Women’s Day, the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) will host the Uphill Social from 8:45 to 10 a.m. at the Cliffhouse Restaurant on Buttermilk, which will open early and be offering discounted breakfast for all attendees.

The Uphill Socials is a popular community event where participants skin, snowshoe, and hike up Buttermilk Mountain and have breakfast together before the workday. Friday’s event will also include trivia prizes and giveaways in celebration of International Women’s Day.

“There’s tremendous female leadership throughout the valley and dynamic women helping to make things happen, whether it’s in arts and culture or adaptive ski experiences, as well as all the women who are CEOs of their families. We celebrate them all,” Voss said.

In addition, Aspen Snowmass will host its second annual champagne lunch at the Cliffhouse from noon-2 p.m. on Friday. The community is invited to make their way to the Cliffhouse where Aspen Snowmass will host a celebratory lunch offering complimentary champagne to attendees over 21.

The lunch, which is open to everyone, will feature music from local DJ Alex Golden, a raffle benefitting the non-profit organization Women of Winter, and gifts from Halfdays, Klean Kanteen, Aspen Hospitality, and other local businesses.

Attendees can uphill via one of Buttermilk’s three designated uphill routes; passes are required, and dogs are not permitted. Those who do not wish to uphill can take the Summit Express or Tiehack Express chairlifts to the top.

Ute Mountaineer will provide complimentary uphill rentals for attendees on a first-come, first-serve basis. Secure rentals by contacting the store directly.

In the evening, the Limelight Aspen will host an après event from 5-7 p.m. featuring a free screening of “Advice for Girls,” a ski and snowboard film with an all-female cast and crew. Director Sara Robbins and local Aspen Snowmass athlete Sierra Schlag will be in attendance and will host a Q&A panel following the screening.
