Electric classic car replicas cruise through Aspen’s Gondola Plaza

What appeared to be priceless pieces of automotive and design history were driving down the center of Aspen’s Gondola Plaza on Thursday, March 13.
Keen-eyed visitors with skis on their shoulders may have noticed that the cars did not appear to be the correct size, and despite moving under their own power, they were not roaring with noise from the V12, Straight-8, or Straight-6 engines that were originally under the hoods of the famous cars.
That’s because the cars are fully-electric, scaled-down replicas of legendary automobiles from the 20th century.
The miniaturized Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, Bugatti Type 35, and Aston Martin DB5 models on display are the work of Hedley Studios, a UK-based company that specializes in building officially-licensed, three-quarter scale, replicas of the historical cars. Models range between $95,000 and $250,000.
The Bugatti and Aston Martin models are on display inside of plexi-glass boxes along the path to the Silver Queen Gondola, with the slightly larger Ferrari occupying the more spacious, central display space.
Visitors to Aspen Mountain can see these replicas at the bottom of the Silver Queen Gondola now through Sunday, March 23.
