DanceAspen is collaborating with the Red Brick Center of the Arts to host a free monthly community dance class series for the first time.
“We’re inviting the community to learn from professional dancers, which is really special. It’s a unique offer from DanceAspen, as the only local dance company that exists here,” Founder and Artistic Director Laurel Winton said.
The monthly classes, “Free Community Moves with DanceAspen Artist,” will be held on Saturdays from the end of May through September. The classes will run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. beginning May 30 and continuing June 13, July 11, Aug. 15 and Sept. 5 at the Red Brick Center for the Arts, located at 110 E. Hallam St.
“I thought it would be a great way for people in the neighborhood to come together and meet each other and work on their bodies, to get confident and to learn new skills and dance because there is a big appreciation for the arts here,” Winton said, adding, “Our dancers are rehearsing every single day, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in our own studios. We thought it would be refreshing for us to bring our training and our expertise straight to the neighborhood at the Red Brick Center for the Arts.”
DanceAspen Company Artists will curate and lead classes from ballet to jazz to musical theater, including Tyler Kerbel teaching jazz May 30 and Jonah Delgo instructing ballet on June 13.
“I’m very excited for this open class series,” Kerbel said. “What excites me about teaching is building community and connections through dance.”
He added that while students will be learning and working on their technique, this class is more about having fun and moving together in the space. Both returning dancers and those new to the studio are welcome, ages 14 and older. It’s for all levels and abilities — including those who were dancers but took a break for a few decades and want to return to it again. The attire is a suggested yoga fitness style.
“It’s a reminder of our mission and we can only provide it because people support us,” Winton said. “We’re doing the best we can to share the art and the love of dance.”
DanceAspen will also be performing a piece as part of the Aspen Public Art’s Mall Fest 50 Art Parade celebration. Aspen Public Art is leading the Art Parade this year and was the primary organizer for last year’s flash mob — the dance was DanceAspen’s first collaboration under the Red Brick Center for the Arts umbrella in August 2025.
Space is limited. For more information and class schedule to sign up, visit DanceAspen.
