The Colorado Department of Transportation will be doing asphalt surface maintenance work in Aspen this week, closing a portion of Main Street.
The right-most westbound lane of Main Street will be closed from 7 a.m to 3 p.m. Thursday from Aspen Street to 7th Street. It will reopen for afternoon outbound-traffic.
“It’s going to be westbound traffic going out of town from Aspen (Street) to the Hickory House corner, which should not affect the morning commuters at all,” said Daniel Maldonado, city of Aspen Streets Department superintendent. “Then, we are hoping to be done by 3 p.m. in order for all traffic leaving Aspen, all that rush hour traffic, to be not affected either.”
A press release announcing the construction noted that drivers planning on traveling westbound between those hours should plan extra travel time into their schedule.
There is no planned maintenance on the other lanes on Main Street in the coming months.
“That lane has specifically been picked just because of how many times my department has done a lot of patchwork in that area,” Maldonado said. “So what CDOT is doing is just covering all that up to ensure that we don’t have as many issues this winter with potholes.”
