Aspen Valley Health, in partnership with the Aspen Historical Society, is hosting a community event, “Healthcare in Aspen: A Journey Through Time,” on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Aspen Valley Health’s medical center.
The free event will feature storytelling highlighting the evolution of healthcare in the valley, from 134 years ago during Aspen’s early history through today’s medical center and Aspen Valley Heath’s vision for the future.
“In light of our recent brand refresh, this event is a chance to celebrate our past while looking ahead to a future where that same spirit and grit that has defined us for more than century guides us forward to meet the needs of our patients and community,” Jennifer Slaughter, chief growth and marketing officer for Aspen Valley Health’s Community Relations, said.

Attendees will be treated to a welcome reception with food and refreshments, followed by a presentation from Aspen Historical Society’s Amy Honey, featuring images and stories from the archive.
“There are many moments throughout Aspen Valley Health’s incredible 134-year history that highlight the resilience of our providers and staff, the innovation required for rural healthcare delivery, and the strength found in our connection to community,” Slaughter added.
Aspen Valley Health leaders and community members will be featured in a panel after the presentation from Aspen Historical Society. Panelists include John Sarpa; AVH CEO Dave Ressler; Barry Mink, MD; John “Bud” Glismann, MD; Annette “Nettie” Kremer; and Vicki True.
Attendees will leave with a complimentary copy of the special edition book, “The Hospitals of Aspen.”
Everyone is welcome. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m.
