Pew: Three reasons I am voting yes on 200 and no on 1C
I live in Woody Creek under the glide path for landing and taking off. The noise is obnoxious and the county is either unwilling or unable to control it. The noxious particles that are dumped especially from large planes is a fear all of us who live downvalley from the airport fear. Once the runways are moved we have no control on the type of plane that lands here.
Like building a six-lane highway, if you build it they will come. Larger planes just mean more people and more stress on an already stressed infrastructure. I am not sure how our transportation infrastructure can keep up with more more more. Affordable housing for those people that are needed to meet the demands of more tourists is unavailable. We have to reserve space on our favorite hikes. Skiing has become overcrowded and more dangerous. Blackout dates will need to be expanded.
The county has been dishonest in their whole approach to a runway expansion. This has nothing to do with building a more effective terminal, and having electric buses. We are all for that. This is only about the runway and larger planes, where the county would like to have you think its about modernizing our airport. Just read 1C and you will see how the county is trying to twist words to make you believe something that’s not there. The BOCC already has this power; and its a total violation of our democracy to try to cancel out the vote of the people.
