Robert Holmes Jr.
Robert Holmes, Jr. passed away peacefully on January 10, 2015 at his home in Rifle, CO surrounded by his loving family.
He was born, March 15, 1928 in Wayne, NJ to the late Robert Sr. and Winifred (Whittaker) Holmes. He attended Pompton Lakes High School where he graduated in 1946. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. and completed a two year tour during the end of WWII. He attended Stevens Institute of Technology where he graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He married Alice Pauline Damaty, on December 30, 1950. Bob was employed by ITT for over 25 years where he worked as a mechanical engineer. In 1989 he retired and moved to Rifle, CO.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Alice, his 8 loving children; Robert III of Carbondale, CO, Richard (Deborah) Holmes of Charlotte,NC, Cathleen (Robert Petts) of Glenwood Springs, CO, John (Karen) Holmes of Flanders, NJ, Mark Holmes of Glenwood Springs, CO, Charles (Elaine) Holmes of Downingtown, PA, Tim (Ginger) Holmes of Towaco, NJ and Bill (Melanie) Holmes of Rifle, CO, 24 devoted grandchildren, 7 cherished great grandchildren, dear sister Winifred Walker of Inverness, FL, numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful dog Bratt II. He truly felt blessed.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by three sisters: Roberta Bradley, Evelyn Ferrari and Florence Hinchman.
Interment has taken place in New Jersey. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rifle, CO on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 10:00 am.
