Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Shane Russell Burton passed on Palm Sunday, March 29th, 2026 surrounded by loving family and is now safe and whole and peaceful in God’s Presence, where he has fullness of joy.

Jesus said, Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who suffer for doing what is good and right, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you, for it is then that the One God, that you’re most dear to, embraces you so greatly.
If that’s all true, then Shane was indeed blessed, and so are we, because we’ve lost one who is most dear to us. Shane was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to so many. He is survived by his wife, Jane (Harmon), granddaughter, Arabella, grandsons, Rohan and Draven, mother, Gale, brother Tyler (Anne), sister Diana Baker, sister Shannon Burgason (Scott), brother Bruce (Tiffany), sister Michelle Lloyd (Ron), many nieces and nephews and the Harmon family. His father, William Burton, and daughter, Victoria, preceded Shane in “passing on to glory” (as Shane would say).

Shane was born September 8, 1958 in Joliet, Illinois. His mother introduced him to Jesus at the age of eight years. “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17 This faith, coupled with a move to Aspen in 1968, laid the groundwork for a fulfilling life that was strong enough to face life’s challenges.

Every endeavor had humble beginnings for Shane that led to many noteworthy achievements. His joy of skiing started with miles of turns that turned into racing, coaching, directing and many years volunteering when and where he was needed. He was honored to be inducted into the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club Hall of Fame in 2015.

Working hard every day was a given for Shane. His father mentored him in the construction trade and, together, they tackled residential and commercial projects in the Roaring Fork Valley. In addition, Shane dedicated two decades to the restoration of landmark buildings in downtown Grand Junction.

Farming was a lifelong dream. In 1995, Shane and Jane moved to the Dolores River Canyon, a remote parcel of land in western Colorado. Shane designed and crafted a charming straw bale solar home for his family and surrounded it with barns, a greenhouse, orchards, animals and children! This was a place for family and friends to relax and have fun. The goal was to be self-sufficient, Lord willing, and it was a success. Psalm 116:1-2. ” I love the Lord, for He heard my voice. Because the Lord has turned his ear to me, I will call on Him as long as I live.” Shane did just that!

Shane, I am your darling, Bella is your sweet girl, Rohan and Draven are your two mighty little men of God and we love you FOREVER and tomano!

Revelations 21:4 “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, not crying, not pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. He makes all things new!”
