It is with a heavy heart that we announce the recent passing of Spouses Thomas Miller and Rebecca Magill. A couple for over 48 years, and dedicated dog lovers; they considered their many close friends to be their family.
They first appeared in Aspen in 1980 on a sunny July Day in their rusty old Van that was painted with flowers and a Joni Mitchell symbol of “Hejira”(meaning journey). As the door opened, out stumbled 6’4” Tom, beautiful, smiling Becca, and two large dogs. Tom stated that they had been on a journey, living in the van with the dogs for six months as they traveled all over the South. Looking around at Aspen and the surrounding mountains, he turned to Becca, declaring, “We’re Home!”
Throughout his long career with RFTA, he was once elected “Driver of the Year.” Becca also drove for RFTA, worked at The Aspen Times, and was a ski instructor for The Skiing CO. She had a kind word for all; both human and animal, and rescued many pets over the years. She was always willing to join Tom on one of his many crazy global adventures to some of the farthest points on the Planet. But she was happiest with a dog on her lap, or sitting on her porch in Smuggler watching the neighborhood children. Her sunny smile will be missed.
Tom, being a generous man, took his large circle of friends on many adventures around the world. Whether it was Heli-skiing in the Bugaboos; Captaining a catamaran in the British Virgin Islands (he received his captains license during Covid); celebrating his 80th Birthday in Mexico with a group of 30; or, snorkeling and diving on Blackbird Caye in Belize — Tom wanted his friends to enjoy themselves. His generosity allowed many of us to fulfill our dreams, he indelibly enriched all our lives. He will be sorely missed — not only for this generosity, but for his spirited, witty conversation; his hosting of many social events such as Broncos Football Games; and, for his knack of bringing together friends on Friday nights for some rollicking fun at the former Mezzaluna.
We are hoping Tom and Becca are enjoying their next big adventures — that African Safari Tom wanted to go on where he could watch his beloved elephants eat fruit from the trees next to him, or, to watch that glorious sunset from a favorite beach in Thailand, and around the world. We honor you, Tom and Becca, with a shot of Dead Rabbit Whiskey — A toast to your next big adventures!
Your Friends will always have a hole in our heart as we remember the good times; and, we will call you “our friend” in this life, and the next. A memorial Service at The Aspen Elks will be announced.
