Too much shadow at Shadow Mountain lodge

Dear Editor: As a former member of the city of Aspen’s Historic Preservation Committee, Aspen needs to adopt the solar access easements as adopted by the city of Boulder in 1970. It is hard to understand how the city Planning and Zoning or City Council could support a real estate development proposal which would allow a multi-story 32-foot height variance. Previous growth management review scoring would have required that such a project be more than exemplary to even reach the threshold for consideration of such a variance.Elleree Fletcher is correct to speak up for the community concern of overshadowing other properties. This proposal is more than 20 feet higher than the dome of the Elks Building! Why should this be allowed?Sven Erik AlstromAspen
