Snowmass Sun: Softball

“Battle against City Hall continues” headlined The Aspen Times July 25, 1985, “but only one team has put the brakes on S’mass team. The options are unlimited. They could stipulate that defeating the town in softball is not an effective use of land, therefore prohibited. Or, how about citing opponents’ uniforms, which carry the names of team sponsors, as being in violation of the town’s Uniform Sigh Code? Or they could at least make a few bucks by levying a tax on runs scored by opposing teams. Losing could become lucrative. With the revenue generated from such a tax, the town could build a maintenance facility in Basalt instead of Divide to really mitigate visual impact. But the Town of Snowmass Village’s softball team hasn’t had to take any drastic measures this summer to rack up the wins in Snowmass softball action. They’ve been able to lay down the law with their bats and gloves and, of course, the team cooler. The town came from behind to defeat the Snowmass Club, 9-6, Tuesday, improving its record to 11-1, good for first place in the standings. The Snowmass Club fell to 8-4, tied with Costello Construction-Snowmass Care for third place behind Village property Managements, which was 11-2 after Tuesday’s action.”
