Participants of the 40th annual National Disabled Veteran Winter Sports Clinic were able to experience Snowmass last week despite the mountain closing early for the season on Sunday, April 5.

The annual adaptive sports clinic is hosted by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Disabled American Veterans.

Because a majority of the participants were entry-level/low-level skiers and riders, they were able to upload on the Elk Camp Gondola and ski off the Meadows lift, according to Aspen Skiing Company, with the lift slowed down in order to accommodate the loading and unloading.

A number of more experienced skiers and riders were also able to ski Funnel.

With the snow that was left, instructors helped the veterans navigate what was considered the safest way down the mountain. The Nordic group was able to participate in the area between the climbing wall and the coaster, with a city of Aspen team tracking and re-grooming as needed.

Leadership and volunteers made the clinic possible, according to SkiCo.
