The town of Snowmass Village on Tuesday announced alternative voting options as the Snowmass post office closure nears, which is slated for the days preceding the November election.
According to the U.S. Postal Service, the Snowmass Village Post Office will be closed for five to seven days beginning Oct. 24. The post office is located at 16 Kearns Rd.
“Snowmass Village residents are asked to pick up their mail in Aspen for that duration,” a Snowmass press release states.
If unable to access their ballot, voters can get replacement mail ballots from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays until Nov. 4 at the Pitkin County Administration Building, 530 E. Main St. in Aspen.
Voters can vote in person at the same address from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. In-person voting will also be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the Nov. 4 Election Day. Those voting in person must provide identification.
“As ballots cannot be forwarded, we want to ensure the public knows that they can come to our offices for a replacement ballot,” Pitkin County Clerk and Recorder Ingrid K. Grueter said in the release.
She acknowledged the inconvenience of the closure for Snowmass Village residents.
“Besides providing safe and secure elections, the Elections department wants to make voting as easy as possible,” Grueter said.
