Pros, cons about Pitkin County ballot issues being collected 

Deadline for TABOR notice pros/cons is Friday

Local election officials are calling for public comments detailing the potential pros and cons of 16 ballot tax issues in the Pitkin County Coordinated Election on Nov. 4. 

The comments collected from the public will be published in the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) Notice and mailed to voters 30-days before the November election. 

“The Clerk and Recorder Office is required by the Colorado Constitution to publish a TABOR Notice for ballot tax issues,” said Pitkin County Clerk and Recorder Ingrid K. Grueter. “Any elector registered in each of the districts who wishes to submit a pro or con statement regarding the 16 financial issues on this year’s ballot may submit their comments to the Designated Election Official (DEO) of each district.”



Local tax issues on the November ballot come from the following 12 jurisdictions, and comments should be emailed to the designated election official (DEO) of each district as indicated below:

City of Aspen Ballot Issue 2A: Tax Increase for Public Education

City of Aspen Ballot Issue 2B: Debt for Lumberyard Affordable Housing Project

Town of Snowmass Village Ballot Issue 2D: Increase Property Tax for Educational Purposes

Town of Basalt Ballot Issue 3A: Increase Lodging Tax for Affordable Housing

Aspen School District No.1 Ballot Issue 4A: General Fund Mill Levy Override

Aspen School District No.1 Ballot Issue 4B: General Obligation Bonds

Aspen Fire Protection District Ballot Issue 6A: Sales Tax

Aspen Fire Protection District Ballot Issue 6B: Property Tax Rate Extension

Only registered voters residing in the political subdivision and eligible to vote on the issues may submit comments on the issue, and comments must include a signature and an address where the signer is registered to vote. The deadline for written comments for the TABOR Notice will be filed by noon on Friday, Sept 19. TABOR Notices will be mailed to all registered voters no later than Friday, Oct. 3.
