Thirty-three pairs of Volant PowerKarve skis donated by the owner of Pomeroy Sports in Aspen raised more than $13,200 for the Aspen Camp School for the Deaf during a sale last Saturday.

Tom Anderson, 23-year owner of Pomeroy and longtime supporter of the Deaf Camp, initially donated 30 pairs of the skis to the camp to be sold at a discount for the benefit of the camp, explained B.J. Blocker, its executive director. The skis have a retail value of $629.

The camp then sold the skis (which incidentally are Pomeroy’s best seller) for $400 at a small holiday gathering at the Pomeroy shop across from the gondola last Saturday morning.

“We sold out really quickly,” Blocker said, “and because there were people still waiting in line to buy a pair, Tom donated another three pairs for those people to buy, too.”

Additionally, Anderson donated two more pairs of the skis to the camp to be auctioned off at the organization’s annual fund-raising dinner Wednesday at The Crystal Palace.

“Tom has really done a super thing here,” Blocker said. “We are very grateful to Tom … The skis represent a $19,000 in-kind contribution from Tom, who has been a longtime supporter of the camp.”

The camp school has hosted the Crystal Palace dinner event, which features musical comedy and satire, on the dinner theater’s opening night of the winter season for the last three years.

“This annual benefit provides important support to help us offer quality learning and recreational opportunities to the participants,” Blocker said.
