Mountain Mayhem: Moonlit masquerade

DanceAspen’s fourth annual gala took place on July 18 at Hotel Jerome, this time with the ethereal theme of a Moonlit Masquerade. Guests arrived at the sold-out event, which began with a cocktail reception in the Antler Bar, then all were invited into the ballroom that had been transformed into a candlelit environment with roses, ribbons, and masks adorning the tables. A stunning larger-than-life painting created by artist Andy Millner, in collaboration with Hexton Gallery, served as the backdrop for the stage and dance floor. This piece is currently available at Hexton Gallery on the Cooper Avenue Mall and worth seeing. And once it’s been purchased, 50% of proceeds will generously be donated to DanceAspen.
Throughout the dinner, there were performances by the company dancers set to music by DJ Dylan. The live auction list rivaled all others with an incredible array of trips to far-flung locales from Belize to Lake Como, a heliskiing adventure, dining experiences with chefs from Michelin-starred establishments, and more.
Laurel Winton, founder of DanceAspen, thanked all for supporting the small yet mighty company of seven dancers who pour their souls into their work for this community. They provide year-round programming in diverse settings, from the Holden-Marolt property earlier this month presented with the Aspen Historical Society to a performance at Paepcke Park last week presented with Buckhorn Public Arts to the Wheeler Opera House this month.
Allison Walsh, managing director of DanceAspen, shared, “We felt truly proud of the evening, as we raised a significant portion of our programming budget. This will allow us to continue bringing in international artists, such as Ihsan Rustem and Garrett Smith, who will travel from Europe for the Wheeler premiere on Aug. 27 and 28. It also helps us build upon our DanceStart program in local schools and continue to compensate our artists with integrity.”
