Man who punched ski coach gets 18 months’ probation

A man found guilty of assaulting a Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club ski coach on the slopes last winter was sentenced to 18 months of supervised probation during a hearing Friday.

Kaiden Bogda, 21, of Steamboat Springs, was charged with third-degree assault, reckless endangerment and failing to remain on the scene of a skier-versus-skier crash after being arrested in Steamboat. Bogda punched the ski coach Jan. 4, while the coach was instructing skiers at Steamboat Resort in the Rabbit Ears Terrain Park.

After Bogda pleaded guilty to third-degree assault in a hearing in June, Routt County Judge Erin Wilson dismissed the reckless endangerment and failure-to-remain-on-the-scene charges in a plea deal.

In addition to the supervised probation, Bogda must complete anger management evaluation, mental health evaluations and any other recommended treatment, as well as moral reconation therapy. Bogda also has been ordered to pay restitution and all court costs and fees.

A protection order barring Bogda from both Steamboat Resort and Howelsen Hill will remain in place for the duration of his probation.
