Valley View Hospital has been recognized for service excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program.
This distinction acknowledges a strong commitment by the hospital to provide “An Outstanding Inpatient Experience” and “An Outstanding Emergency Department Experience.” This is the third consecutive time Valley View Hospital has been recognized for its emergency department services.
“Only the most highly rated hospitals provide this level of patient satisfaction across both inpatient and emergency services,” said John Clark, director of the healthcare practice at J.D. Power and Associates. “The results demonstrate an outstanding performance by Valley View Hospital.”
The service excellence distinction was determined by surveying recently discharged patients about their perceptions of their hospital visit and comparing the results to the national benchmarks established in the annual J.D. Power and Associates National Hospital Service Performance Study.
The telephone-based research conducted among Valley View Hospital patients focuses on the five key drivers of patient satisfaction with their overall inpatient experience: speed and efficiency; dignity and respect; comfort; information and communication; and emotional support.
Valley View Hospital exceeds the national benchmark study score for inpatient satisfaction and emergency department satisfaction. The hospital performs particularly well, compared with the national study, in providing patients with dignity and respect. Valley View receives particularly high ratings for the courtesy of the nurses and courtesy of the radiology staff.
The hospital also performs well in providing patients with emotional support, receiving notably high ratings for confidence and trust in the doctor’s skill level and the treatment of family and friends. Additionally, approximately 70 percent of Valley View patients indicate they would return to the facility in the future if needed.
“It is an honor to be recognized by J.D. Power and Associates for providing exceptional care and service to our patients. We are particularly proud that Valley View Hospital has been recognized three times in a row for Emergency Services. Additionally, Valley View inpatient services received their second award in five years,” said Gary Brewer, CEO of Valley View Hospital. “At Valley View, we recognize how important it is to provide our patients with an outstanding hospital experience. It is this commitment that has allowed us to again be recognized in the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program.”

New model for counseling comes to the Roaring Fork
David and Lori Ventimiglia know teenagers, having worked with youth from all over the world (Germany, Russia, New Zealand, Belize, Great Britain, Panama and from almost every state in America) for mor ethan 20 years.
Fifteen years ago, they co-founded The Monarch Center, a Front Range-based wilderness therapy program, which has facilitated more than 50,000 client days in the field, worked with more than 500 teens and conducted hundreds of family and multi-family interventions. In addition they hosted two seasons of the top rated European TV reality show “Teenagers Ausser Kontrolle” (“Teenagers out of Control”).
Dave and Lori moved to Carbondale with their three children last summer and are excited to bring aspects of the business they ran on the Front Range to the Roaring Fork Valley. The couple believes that there are significant limitations to modern counseling, including the traditional 50-minute hour psychotherapy session.
Dave is a Certified Gestalt therapist. Gestalt is an extremely intensive and experiential (meaning that it eschews the use of extended verbal interaction) that is exceedingly difficult to manipulate and is well suited to adolescents. When you combine the Wilderness and Gestalt practices, it not only grabs the attention of the participants, it also propels them into new ways of experiencing themselves and the world around them in ways that are exhilarating and life changing.
Monarch offers year-round, individualized counseling or mentoring, which may take place in the home or on a one-on-one expedition and often involves multiple 3-6 hour family sessions, family expeditions and community involvement. In addition to the counseling and mentoring, Monarch offers three Rites of Passage Expeditions for youth that will go out this summer and will incorporate aspects from their former wilderness therapy program such as community service, wilderness immersion and exposure and education to indigenous cultures and customs. These courses have adopted practices that have existed, – and been effective – over the course of thousands of years and throughout most significant and successful cultures, both

Grand River has begun offering patients 3D digital mammograms. Grand River was the first in the nation to order this equipment, the latest advancement in women’s health, and is the first in Colorado to be using the new technology.
Recently seen on national news outlets, the system offers exceptionally sharp breastimages, an advanced ergonomic design providing more patient comfort, and a groundbreaking 3D tomosynthesis platform designed to deliver superior screening and diagnostic performance. In addition, it allows for comparison of current and prior mammograms on one workstation, reduces the patient radiation dose up to 30 percent, and reduces repeat mammograms.
Breast tomosynthesis is a revolutionary technology that gives radiologists the ability to identify and characterize individual breast structures without the confusion of overlapping tissue. During a tomosynthesis exam, multiple, low-dose images of the breast are acquired at different angles. These images are then used to produce a series of one-millimeter thick slices that can be viewed as a 3D reconstruction of the breast.
Grand River is committed to the fight against breast cancer. In offering 3D breast tomosynthesis digital mammography, Grand River provides the latest in imaging quality. If you would like to make an appointment, call (970) 625-6442.
