Helicopter operations are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 5, at both Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands, causing trail and road closures for the duration of operations at each location.

At Aspen Mountain, the helicopter activity will continue supporting construction of the new Nell Bell chairlift and occur from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m., according to a press release. The helicopter will then reposition to Aspen Highlands for standard forest health work until approximately 8:30 p.m.

On Aspen Mountain, Copper, Spar, Bingo Slot and Scotties trails will be closed to hiking and biking during flight operations in the morning. Following those helicopter operations, the Silver Queen Gondola, the Sundeck and all scheduled mountain activities will proceed as normally scheduled, the release confirms.

At Aspen Highlands, all hiking trails and the Aspen Highlands Summer Road will be closed while the flight activity occurs.

Nell Bell lift construction will continue through the summer, and guests are encouraged to plan their Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands visits accordingly.

The new Nell Bell lift is expected to debut for the winter 2026/27 season.
