Former Aspen Ideas Festival leader takes helm at Aspen Film

Aspen Film has found its new creative compass in Kitty Boone, naming her as the new executive director of the nonprofit. 

“We are thrilled to welcome Kitty Boone as Aspen Film’s new Executive Director,” Aspen Film Board Chair Monica Vidal said in a press release. “Kitty’s passion for film, her strategic vision, and her longstanding ties to the Aspen community make her the ideal person to guide Aspen Film into its next chapter.”

Boone is experienced in programming, nonprofit management, and community engagement. The organization calls her a “respected leader in Aspen’s cultural and civic life.” 

Boone worked for more than 20 years building the programming and overseeing the direction of the Aspen Ideas Festival. With Boone spearheading the festival, it turned into one of America’s most influential platforms for thought leaders, innovators, and cultural voices, demonstrating her talent for creating meaningful conversations and experiences that have an impact far beyond Aspen.

Boone is looking forward to her new position at Aspen Film.

“I am excited to work with a group of people so engaged and passionate about film: the storytelling, the making, the experience of watching. There are so many aspects of film that touch and enliven our diverse culture,” Boone said.

Aspen Film just wrapped its 46th annual Filmfest. Notably, Boone brought the documentary “She Runs the World” to the festival, which won the audience favorite award. 

In her new role, Boone will oversee Aspen Film’s year-round programs and key initiatives, including its signature festivals, educational outreach, and community partnerships.
