Etkin: Benedetti, Doyle have community-first values

As we approach the April 1 runoff, it’s crucial we elect Aspen City Council members who bring real experience and strong community-first values. That’s why I’m endorsing Christine Benedetti and John Doyle.
Christine had the courage early on to oppose Referendum 1 — the misguided attempt to give a 40% super minority control over future transportation decisions. She also respects the will of the voters who passed Referendum 2 and believes the logical first step is re-evaluating the 1998 PA before launching a lengthy and costly new EIS. She rightly noted the aging Castle Creek Bridge may not last through another 6-year process. Wildfire evacuation must be addressed as a top priority.
She has dedicated over a decade of volunteer service to Aspen, including time on the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Wheeler Board. Her experience will be instrumental in selecting a new city manager and improving public services. For more information, visit cbforcouncil.com.
John Doyle has shown consistent, principled leadership over the past four years — fighting for affordable housing, the environment, and representing Aspen regionally. He picked up additional council duties when others wouldn’t and never shied away from doing the work. For more information, visit johndoyleaspencouncil.com.
Both candidates opposed Referendum 1 and support realistic, community-centered solutions like a two-bridge approach to emergency evacuation.
Join me in supporting Christine Benedetti and John Doyle. Vote by April 1.

Staple Snowmass store to close as owner retires
Since the 1970s, Sherry Flack and her retail businesses have been a recognizable part of Aspen and Snowmass. Now, after half a century, Flack has made the decision to retire.
