Dykann: Thank you for the support

It is with humble and grateful hearts that we thank this community and beyond for the love, prayers, and support shown to our family since Marguerite’s stairway fall and traumatic brain injury.
Over nine weeks at Swedish Medical Hospital this summer, she endured two brain surgeries, with progress and setbacks along the way: ICU to therapy, back to surgery, ICU again, more therapy, a relapse, and finally another surgery and recovery. Many of the “get well” cards spoke to her strength: “Hang in there girl, you’re a strong Tennessee/Texas woman!” She has shown us all that and more, as she re-learns the simple tasks we take for granted: walking, talking, and eating.
We can’t say enough about the doctors, nurses, neurosurgeons, therapists, staff, and case workers at Swedish. By the end of our stay, she had made friends on every floor, lighting up the halls with her blue-eyed smile and sense of humor.
Words fall short to express our thanks for the love and support we’re receiving as we navigate this new chapter. Prognosis: Marguerite is making steady progress, with a road of healing and therapy ahead. We are especially grateful she is now home with us and not in a full-care facility as expected just a month ago.
Friends are welcome to reach out, though we are limiting visits to avoid overstimulation. Her memory is slowly returning, but questions like “Do you remember …?” can be taxing. A month from now may be a better time as she becomes more coherent.
Thank you also to all who helped cover my gigs this summer. For now, I’ll be home as Marguerite’s primary caregiver. For those moved to help, Amanda set up a GoFundMe (gofund.me/4da5da56a), which has eased medical and travel costs.
With love and gratitude,
