Aspen to enhance water safety program

Aspen’s Utilities department has partnered with Backflow Solutions, Inc. to implement an initiative aimed at protecting Aspen’s potable water supply.
The initiative will work by ensuring that all backflow prevention assemblies are tested and maintained annually, according to a press release.
“Initial notifications regarding individuals’ backflow assembly testing will now come directly from BSI,” the press release states. “Backflow assembly testers will also be required to submit test results online via BSI’s system.”
Residents must continue to schedule their annual backflow assembly tests by contacting their preferred certified backflow testers.
Testing companies must have one or both ABPA Certification or ASSE Certification. Testers must also have a current annual test gauge calibration record, and if applicable, must have a valid Colorado Fire Suppression Contractor License.
Contractors are encouraged to update their contact information on their BSI profiles to receive timely notifications. New BSI users will be required to create a profile, upload credentials including licenses and test gauge calibrations, and establish an administrative user.

“The city of Aspen remains committed to delivering safe, high-quality water to our community,” the press release states. “By partnering with BSI Online and adhering to stringent testing protocols, we are taking proactive steps to protect our water resources from the dangers of backflow contamination.”
