11:45 a.m.: Copper Mountain Resort has also announced that it will be indefinitely postponing its opening day.

“We need a little more winter before we can open for skiing and riding,” said an Instagram post from the resort. “We are extremely eager to kick off the season and plan to open as soon as possible.”

According to the post, Copper Mountain received 4 inches of snow overnight, but temperatures have not been cold enough for “efficient snowmaking.”

“It has been a challenging start to the season,” said Olivia Butrymovich, the ski area’s communications manager, in an emailed statement. “Much of the moisture we have received at Copper this fall has been rain with limited snow reaching our village areas. Copper’s priority is to provide a safe and quality early season surface for skiers and riders, and we are currently unable to guarantee that product by Friday.”

9:40 a.m.: On Thursday morning, Nov. 5, Breckenridge Ski Resort announced that it would delay its opening day, which was planned for Nov. 6.

Emily Kowalenko, the resort’s senior communications specialist, said the reason for the delayed opening is overnight temperatures, which have “hovered just barely too warm to run snowmaking at full power for sustained periods.”

The decision was made “to give guests the quality experience they expect,” Kowalenko said.

The ski resort has not yet chosen a new opening day.

Copper Mountain Resort has also been slated to open Nov. 6; The ski area’s website still lists Friday as its opening day.

Copper Mountain has not yet returned Summit Daily News requests for comment regarding if it is ready for opening day.
