This week, attendees at Carbondale’s September First Friday can explore an exciting addition to the traditional monthly festivities — the Bonedale Flea Market.

Affectionately named after Carbondale’s informal nickname, “Bonedale,” the market will feature around 20 local vendors offering everything from food and handmade goods to vintage items and thrifted clothing.

“We’ve always been interested in having more opportunities for local makers to sell their wares,” said Michael Stout, Carbondale Arts community engagement director. “Carbondale has a farmer’s market that is just wrapping up, which is on Wednesdays and we think that that first Friday setting is a great opportunity to have the community come out, support local, small businesses and local makers and complement some of the other things that are already happening and add to the mix.”

Most vendors are new to Carbondale Arts events and include the Colorful Crow, known for handmade crocheted clothing, vintage finds and art, Cocoa Club by Pollinator, offering chocolates and other confections, and the Thunder River Theatre Company, which will be selling costumes.

“The lovely thing about vintage markets is there’s some surprise and delight and treasure hunting,” Stout said. “Maybe you’re a collector and you’ve got things that you’re interested in and you just never know what you might find and be surprised by. From my consumer perspective, that’s what I’m most excited for.”

Although the Bonedale Flea Market won’t appear at every First Friday, Stout hopes it will return several times in 2026.

“From an organizational perspective, I’m really excited to have another opportunity to bring creatives into the heart of Carbondale so that we can continue to sustain a creative economy in the community,” Stout said.

In addition to the new market, First Friday guests can revel in live music by Tommy the Animal, enjoy ceramic demonstrations held by the Carbondale Clay Center and browse a charm bracelet sale by Mountain Tide — with proceeds benefiting Carbondale Arts — among other activities.
