Battle of the Bands moving from Basalt to Carbondale
Aspen, CO Colorado
BASALT ” Basalt is losing a popular community event to Carbondale.
The annual Battle of the Bands festival ” which showcases young musicians ” will move to an indoor venue at Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale this year. The event enjoyed a decade-long run in Basalt, becoming more popular each year. Last year it featured 30 acts playing for more than six hours in Basalt’s Lions Park.
Chris “Biff” Phillips, co-founder of National Jam Foundation Inc., which organized Battle of the Bands, informed Basalt officials in a recent letter that the organization handed the event over to Jazz Aspen/Snowmass. Over 10 years, the event has raised $24,000 in grants for music departments in local schools, Biff said.
Jazz Aspen announced that “Band Battle ’09” will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2. Moving to an indoor venue eliminates the chance of the event getting rained out.
