A fallen hiker was rescued on the Four Pass Loop on West Maroon Trail Sunday evening by Mountain Rescue in Aspen.
The hiker was in a remote section of the backcountry in the mountains at 11,200 feet, a press release confirmed, about five miles from Maroon Lake.
“This is a remote and challenging section of the backcountry,” the press release states.
Mountain Rescue Aspen mobilized a field team of seven and requested a CareFlight helicopter to assist with the evacuation. The helicopter landed at the subject’s location at approximately 8:13 p.m. and transported the patient to Aspen Valley Health for advanced medical care.
All Mountain Rescue Aspen members were safe and out of the field by 9:30 p.m.
“The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the all-volunteer team of Mountain Rescue Aspen and CareFlight Of The Rockies for their assistance with this mission,” the press release states. “The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind hikers to carry dedicated two-way satellite communication device and to be prepared for medical emergencies when recreating in the backcountry.”
