“Homeyer declares intention to run,” The Aspen Times said on Aug. 21, 1969. “Eve Homeyer, owner-manager of the House of Ireland in Aspen and Snowmass, announced her intention to file a petition seeking candidacy for the office of Mayor of the City of Aspen, Tuesday.

Mrs. Homeyer explained that the reason for announcing her entry now is ‘the hope that it will help stimulate interest, discussion, and active participation in the council races, which are the most sensitive positions in our city’s future.’

There will be six council members chosen this fall, rather than four, as in the past. This is regardless of the city’s boundaries at election time.

‘Along with all other citizens who love Aspen, I am concerned with the quality of life in Aspen,’ Mrs. Homeyer said. ‘Change there will be. I invite the open discussion of all during the coming weeks so that we may help to direct the change instead of becoming unwilling victims of a civic climate that none of us wants. Let us choose our way now before the election so that after November, Aspen can move as her citizens wish.'”
