Aspen woman tries to abduct child in restaurant, punches at staff

Editor’s note: Unless individuals hold positions of public trust or there is imminent danger of harm to the public (e.g., active shooter) or there is an exceptional circumstance, suspects arrested/charged will not be named/identified until there is a conviction or a plea deal is taken. The suspect is named here due to her multiple past attempts to kidnap and recently posting bail.
An Aspen resident has been charged with kidnapping, harassment, and stalking following alleged abduction attempts of multiple minors.
According to an arrest affidavit, Aspen Police units responded to an incident at the French Alpine Bistro, located at 400 E. Hopkins Ave, at 4 p.m. on Oct. 11.
The affidavit states that Adria Dawn Tomlinson, 43, “followed a man and his children into the restaurant. Once inside, she attempted to take the man’s son.”
According to the affidavit, the suspect had tried to take this man’s child four times prior.
Restaurant staff tried to separate the suspect from the child as the suspect punched at employees. Police soon arrived at the restaurant, where they found the suspect yelling at everyone.
Police escorted the Tomlinson outside and away from the restaurant, where she was uncooperative.
“Tomlinson has followed the man’s kids to the bus stop and looked into the child’s windows, saying, ‘My angel, my angel,'” the affidavit states.
The affidavit also states that all the man’s children are very afraid of the suspect, to the point where if they hear any noises in their home, they become afraid.
A witness at the scene of the most recent incident stated, “I saw the woman grab the child and try to remove him from the bar stool.”
The affidavit states that Tomlinson was placed in handcuffs due to her erratic behavior while at the scene, and after police spoke with all the witnesses, she was placed under arrest and brought to jail.
The suspect’s bond was set at $5,000, and her next court date is set for Oct. 21 at the Pitkin County Courthouse. According to the Pitkin County Jail, Tomlinson posted bond on Tuesday.
High Points: ‘Show me to where there’s music’
The late great guitarist Jeff Beck once had a song with the refrain, “Show me to where there’s music.” I remember it coming to mind last year as I traipsed all across town to performances for the June JAS Experience presented by JAS Aspen. The music was phenomenal, but equally compelling were the venues that hosted the talent. They were as important to the event as the artists. They are part of the charm of the June Experience. Strolling from venue to venue as the sun sets over town is an only-in-Aspen experience.
Conservationists urge the public to disinfect all river gear after use, including waders, paddle boards, and kayaks
Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) such as zebra mussels, rusty crayfish, quagga mussels, New Zealand mud snails, and invasive aquatic plants have already caused lasting damage to rivers and lakes across the state.
