Aspen/Pitkin County Airport to host open houses for public feedback on terminal design

Community members are invited to help shape the design of the new Aspen/Pitkin County Airport terminal at upcoming community open houses aimed at providing an opportunity for residents, travelers, workforce, and partners to share feedback on the terminal modernization.
The modernization of the airport is guided by the Common Ground Recommendations, according to a press release. Beginning with the ASE Vision Committee in 2019, those recommendations are a community-driven set of principles that have been developed through extensive public engagement. The recommendations emphasize sustainability, safety, and a human-scale design reflecting “the character of Aspen and Pitkin County,” the press release states, and serve as a foundation for the county’s decision-making.
“Community voice is at the heart of this project,” Diane Jackson, Aspen/Pitkin County Airport director, said in the release. “The Common Ground Recommendations made it clear that people in this valley care deeply about how the airport fits into our environment and our community values.”
The fall open houses are scheduled in order for the community to see how those shared values are being translated into the terminal design. According to the press release, feedback will help with prioritization of the goals for the space. The scope of the feedback sought at the open houses will begin broad and become more specific as the project progresses — it will include programming needs and conceptual designs.
