Twining Flats Road Improvement District ballot issue 6C: Mill Levy Increase

Residents and homeowners of Twining Flat Road — located between Colorado Highway 82 and the Roaring Fork River in Woody Creek — will decide in the Nov. 4 election whether or not to increase property taxes to improve Twining Flat Road.

The Twining Flats Road Improvement District is asking voters in ballot issue 6C to approve a mill levy increase. The increase would raise the mill levy from 2.769 mills to 5.769 mills, which are calculated as a fraction of a home’s property value. The district estimates the increase would equate next year to a collective tax of $29,210, split between all the district’s property tax payers.

Romany Iacono, Pitkin County land management and public works specialist who helped get the question on the ballot, said the improvements would be “summer and winter maintenance for the road itself” such as snowplowing, ice removal, brush removal, ditching, and more.

She said the district has been operating at a financial deficit for road improvements for several years.

No statements in favor or against ballot issue 6C were filed in time to be reported by the Pitkin County TABOR notice, which reports comments of ballot issue proponents and opponents.
