Skyler Stark-Ragsdale covers Snowmass, education, crime, and the Aspen Skiing Company at The Aspen Times. He joined the team in September 2024.
Originally from Missoula, Montana, Skyler lived abroad for much of his childhood, spending a year in Mozambique in 2004/05 and a year in Brazil in 2010/11.
Skyler moved to Colorado in 2017 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in film and media studies and play soccer at Colorado College. He wrote for the student newspaper, The Catalyst, and interned for Pueblo PULP Magazine, covering the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following his undergraduate studies, he worked as a server and bartender at Carbondale’s Pour House during the winter of 2021/22. He also competed in the Freeride World Tour Qualifier, big mountain freeskiing series.
Skyler left the valley later that year to study journalism at Emerson College. While at Emerson, he wrote for InBoston Magazine, a Boston publication highlighting local businesses and prominent figures in the community. He graduated from Emerson with a master’s in journalism in August 2023.
Skyler took to the road for the next several months, spending time in Nicaragua, Chile, Brazil, and Argentina — where he taught English and played on a local soccer team. He turned north in the summer of 2024 to work on a commercial fishing boat off the coast of Alaska.
Following his stint at sea, Skyler landed a job at The Aspen Times and returned to Carbondale.
When not reporting, Skyler skis, plays soccer, and whitewater kayaks.
