Anderson Ranch Arts Center, a premier Snowmass Village destination for art making and critical dialogue in the contemporary arts, has announced a new residency program for artists impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles, with all program fees waived.

It is offering a supported residency program this fall for 15 artists affected by the disaster.

“Many artists lost their homes, studios, archives, and work, leaving the art community deeply impacted. Some of these artists have longstanding ties to Anderson Ranch, while others may be new to the ranch. As a residency based in Western Colorado — a region also vulnerable to wildfires — we stand in solidarity with our friends in LA and offer this opportunity for recovery and renewal,” according to a press release. “We aim to provide a space for these artists to create, rebuild, and heal during this challenging time.”

Helen Molesworth, renowned critic, author and curator, will be the visiting critic for the residency cohort. During her time at the Ranch, she will give a public lecture and spend one to three days visiting the studios and critiquing resident work.

The Anderson Ranch artists-in-residence program offers staff support and world-class facilities, which it is making available to artists who have lost access to studios, tools, housing, and community support. Artists impacted by these fires are invited to apply for the five-week residency, with program and application fees waived. This program is open to artists working in painting, printmaking, photography and new media, furniture design and woodworking, sculpture, and ceramics. Artists will be responsible for travel and material costs.

“For decades, Anderson Ranch has nurtured artists by providing time, space, support, and community,” Anderson Ranch Executive Director Peter Waanders said in the release. “We are pleased to offer a selection of impacted artists the opportunity to come together as a cohort during a challenging time in their careers, to connect with each other, to heal, to rebuild, and to continue to create important work that helps us deepen our understanding of the human experience we all share – even in the face of such tragedy.”

The five-week residency will take place from Oct. 15 to Nov. 19, 2025. Applications will be accepted now through Feb. 28. More info: andersonranch.org.
