After his stunning performance in the title role of Mozart’s “Idomeneo” during the 2023 season, Metropolitan Opera star Matthew Polenzani returns to the Aspen area to sing Rodolfo in the semi-staged production, with Enrique Mazzola conducting. The cast will be made up of tomorrow’s opera luminaries from the Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS program. The story was originally set in 19th century Paris, but could take place anytime and anywhere as proven by its adaptation into the hit musical “Rent.” The tale of doomed love serves to inspire by sharing themes of community and the potential for hope despite hardship, along with the backdrop of some of the most exquisite melodies ever created.
