“S’mass Ski School plans teen activities,” publicized The Aspen Times on Dec. 20, 1984.
The Teen Program at Snowmass has been expanded to include several apres ski, sleigh ride parties and sleigh ride barbecues for teens only during the 1984-85 ski season.
The program, offered by the Snowmass Ski School, is the only program of its kind in the country, according to Gary Quist, Ski School supervisor of the Youth Division. The parties, which are limited to 35 teens, will be chaperoned by ski instructors and jointly funded by SRA and the Aspen Skiing Co. on a trial basis this year. The Teen program is comprised of both day and evening activities.
Students are grouped according to age and ability: “While the emphasis each day is teaching ski technique,” Quist said, “the night activities provide pure fun and entertainment.” The after-ski and evening events include cross-country skiing at the Snowmass Club Touring Center, sledding down Fanny Hill, softball games on skis, ski films and magic Shows performed by ‘Doc’ of the Tower Restaurant in addition to the new apres ski sleigh ride parties and barbecues.”
Aspen Historical Society actively preserves and passionately presents local history in an inspired and provocative manner that will continue to anchor the local community and its evolving character. For more, visit aspenhistory.org.
