Gear review: Ski, sun and fun

Gear review: Ski, sun and fun

The Showers Pass waterproof and breathable Porlite Refuge has exceeded all my expectations in a multipurpose jacket. While I originally got the jacket for cycling, it has proven to be a great all-around shell for skiing and everyday use. My favorite aspects of the jacket include the freedom of movement it allows, a removable hood that covers my helmet, an ample amount of ventilation, and a rear-end flap that's useful for minimizing the rear wheel spray up my back. Plus, the outer fabric is made from recycled nylon. While it has many more technical features, these are the stand-out ones for me. $415, showerspass.com.
