Ilic: Local news should report, not avoid

I was disappointed to see that our local newspaper did not cover the recent “No Kings” rally in Glenwood Springs. Whether one agrees with the message or not, events like this deserve to be reported because they reflect the voices and concerns of people in our own community.

The role of a local newspaper is not to take sides, but to inform. When coverage is selective, the community loses trust, and important local discussions are silenced. Journalism should not filter what’s convenient — it should tell the full story, giving readers the facts and allowing them to make up their own minds.

In times when national media often polarizes, it’s even more important for local papers to uphold integrity, neutrality, and transparency. Glenwood Springs and Aspen deserve journalism that represents all parts of our community — not just the parts that are comfortable to report on.
