Goodwin: The library is not just a building full of books

I’m writing this to encourage folks to consider the benefit of voting YES on ballot measure 7B, continued funding of the Basalt Regional library. There has been much conversation as to whether it’s a tax increase or not, and from my understanding of arithmetic it actually is not an increase. However, my reason for this letter is to remind folks that the library is not just a building full of books. It is a living, breathing, cultural, and intellectual provider of life in this community we call the Roaring Fork Valley. Music, book clubs, children’s programs, and even something called the Library of Things where you can check out a guitar or a sewing machine. It’s the most democratic institution we have. It serves everyone. There are no membership fees or entry requirements. We’re all equal there. It is unique in that way. But it can’t continue providing all it does with a reduction in funds that a NO vote would result in. Please vote YES on 7B.
